Grounding Strategies for Recovery: Embodied Practices for Resilience

Kristin Cary

Founder

Living Truth & Women in the Battle

Chronic stress deeply impacts the nervous system, especially for men and women navigating betrayal trauma and the work of healing from unwanted sexual behaviors. In this experiential session, participants will engage in simple grounding and presencing practices designed to support regulation, safety, and clarity. We will practice together and notice how these tools affect the body, emotions, and awareness in real time—skills that can be applied personally and professionally in recovery and helping contexts.

Professional Learning Objectives:

Participants will be able to describe how God designed the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems to respond to threat, and how dysregulation manifests in both betrayed partners and individuals struggling with unwanted sexual behavior.

Through guided group experiences, participants will practice and evaluate multiple grounding strategies—sensory, breath-based, vagal, and movement-based—and identify how to adapt them for use in individual or group settings.

Participants will learn how grounding techniques can be used to restore connection with God, self, and others, fostering co-regulation and spiritual attunement as part of a trauma-informed recovery model.
